| Sunil Mehta Conference Hall inaugurated at CIIE |
The Sunil Mehta Conference Hall was inaugurated at the Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship on 2nd December, 2009. Sunil Mehta, an Alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad (PGP 1988) was passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship. Therefore his batchmates decided to honour his memory by contributing some resources to CIIE as it aims to foster innovation driven entrepreneurship. Sunil started his career with Citibank on completing his PGDM in 1988. In 1989, he started his own venture, INFAC, an industry research and information company. INFAC, which was a leading research provider in India, was later merged with CRISIL in 2000 and Sunil continued to serve as a CEO with the company till 2001. Sunil then took charge of NASSCOM’s initiatives in research and international public affairs and public relations. He was a driving force in the evolving IT industry. In the 5 years spent at NASSCOM, he helped position India as a world player in IT. Sunil left us prematurely in December 2006. CIIE thus utilised the resources contributed by his batch mates in creating a conference hall in his memory. Mr. Jerry Rao, chairman of the NASSCOM Foundation, Prof B H Jajoo, Dean of IIMA and many alumni from the ’88 batch graced the occasion | CIIE launches Mentor Edge |
Realizing the need for mentoring early stage start-ups, CIIE in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad Alumni Association has set up a nationwide network of mentors willing to provide valuable resources including time, guidance, office space and seed-funding for entrepreneurs. The initiative, called Mentor Edge (www.mentoredge.com), aims at providing the winning edge to entrepreneurs, both strategic and operational, during their formative years. Mentor Edge would consist of network of mentors across major cities in the country - starting with Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi.
CIIE's focus has been on incubating the innovative and technology-driven ventures but there are other entrepreneurs who do not fall into this category and hence do not get incubation from the centre. Mentor Edge has been conceived to help these entrepreneurs. As a part of the initiative, CIIE will also host a 'mentoring clinic' once every month in Ahmedabad, which will provide new start-ups a platform to interact with mentors who are a part of this initiative and also meet others. The initiative will have different mentors in different chapters catering to different cities. The Ahmedabad chapter will have leading industrialists such as Chirag Patel of Net4Nuts; Ketan Patel of Troikaa Pharmaceuticals, Prof Sunil Handa from Eklavya Education Foundation, Sunil Parekh, a consultant at Zydus Cadila and professors of IIMA, including Prof PK Sinha, Prof. Rekha Jain and others. |
